Junk food refers to foods that have a high content of in sugar, salt and fat. They are a common meal option but it’s high in calories and low in nutrients. Eating too much of it could affect nearly all parts of your body. Many people prefer them especially in the contemporary society.

Three main nutrients—carbohydrates, proteins, and fats make up food. Additionally, food contains vitamins and minerals that promote sound health, development, and growth. The enormous amounts of carbs, proteins, and fats we consume when we eat junk food, on the other hand, are quickly absorbed by the body and may be harmful to our health

HEART DISEASE: Those who eat junk food run the risk of developing heart disease. Junk food has a lot of fat and cholesterol, which can clog the arteries of the heart. Once the arteries are obstructed, a person is at risk of having fatal heart attacks or having strokes.

DIABETES: With little to no fiber, most fast food items, including drinks and sides, are heavy in carbohydrates, which can cause blood sugar levels to surge repeatedly if consumed often. These insulin spikes may eventually weaken your body’s typical insulin response. This raises the risk of type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, and weight gain.

OBESITY: Weight gain can be brought on by too many calories in fast food meals. This could result in obesity, which would raise your risk of breathing issues including asthma and shortness of breath.

ECONOMY MANAGEMENT: Junk food is expensive and might be difficult for a person’s budget. Eating out frequently is expensive. They can profit from cooking at home, especially if they prepare healthful foods. Furthermore, people who eat out miss out on the chance to share and converse with family members over meals.

MENTAL HEALTH: Junk food has a lot of sugar and fat, which can change how the brain functions by triggering certain chemical responses.  When consumed in excess, important minerals and amino acids may be lost by the body. The growth of your brain and other body parts can be hampered by unhealthy eating habits, even if they only involve consuming junk food in moderation, in combination with an imbalance of fatty acids and the requirement for nutrients. Too much soda and sugar consumption can also weaken bones and cause tooth decay.

In addition, individuals need to be made more aware of the risks associated with junk food so they can avoid using their teeth to dig their own graves.
