Depression is a mood disorder that causes a prolonged sense of sadness and loss of interest. Depression is one of the most common types of mental health conditions and often develops alongside anxiety. Depression can be a reaction to abuse, violence at school, the loss of a loved one, or domestic violence or family troubles in the home. It could last several days, months, or even years. Extreme exhaustion, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, anxiety or guilt feelings, and a general lack of interest in life are some of the symptoms.

Depression can lead to suicide. Your motivation, hope, and vitality are sapped, and it becomes difficult to take the steps necessary to improve your mood. But if the correct support is provided, this can be avoided.

It is important to note that you can’t just “snap out” of depression; it’s not a sign of weakness. Long-term treatment may be necessary for depression. But resist giving up.

Here are some steps to tackle and overcome depression.

  • Reach out to someone you trust and pour out your feelings and have a loved one call you frequently.
  • It is difficult to control your thoughts but it is easier to control our actions by doing stuffs differently that will make us feel better. We can volunteer for a good cause and follow someone along to the cinema, a concert, or a small gathering.
  • Take action to manage your stress, build your resilience, and improve your self-esteem. A regular relaxation routine helps lessen stress, ease depressive symptoms, and increase emotions of happiness and wellbeing. Consider practicing yoga, deep breathing, or meditation.
  • Exercise will make you feel more energised and less exhausted, not the opposite. Look for continuous, rhythmic exercises. If you continue, your exhaustion will lessen. It can be challenging to start exercising when you’re feeling down and worn out. But according to study, if you stick with it, your energy levels will rise.
  • Always being thankful helps a lot in tackling depression. It may sound simple, but spending a moment to carefully list the things you value in your life can significantly reduce stress and improve mood.
