Stress is the feeling of being overwhelmed with phycological, emotional or mental pressure.
Statistics according to Dr. Olabode shabi, a consultant and chairman of the society of family physicians of Nigeria said that about seven million Nigerians are currently suffering from mental health problems associated with stress and depression.
Our body produces stress hormones when we encounter serious challenge that needs our quick response or solution.
Our ability to cope at this point depends greatly on our personality.
Young people are stressed as a result of loosing their jobs, death of a loved one, divorce or financial issues.
We must understand stand stress does not only occur as a result of negative issues, it can also be positive such as organising a house party, travelling, picnics or gaining a job promotion.
A stressed young adult feels easily irritated for addition jobs, angry or sad and sometimes feel intense headache and pain.
As young adults, you can handle stress by;
- Withdrawing from the things causing you stress for a moment. This will help you sort out the things you can’t do anything about and the things you need more time ad a settled mind to solve.
- Speak out: talk to people who has experience in the area causing you stress. Build a team that you share your issues with, there will definitely be one or two people who will proffer solution.
- Take a walk: to overcome stress, you take a walk outside your work place. It will ease you lots of burden and make you feel better and think better to continue with the task ahead.
- Get some rest: take out time to have a rest for 15-30 minutes. It will help in renewing your mind to think of new ideas to handle such situations.
