Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It helps your body to recover from the fast throughout the night.  Some breakfast habits might be affecting your waistline negatively.

  1. Eating sugary breakfast: Choosing to eat your cereal with lots of sugar will increase your sugar level only for it to drop. This will make you feel hungry and make you eat more than you usually do. It is best to go for a more balance breakfast that contains protein, healthy fats and fiber.
  2. Not eating breakfast: Contrary to popular opinion, skipping breakfast is bad for your waistline. It doesn’t allow your body to start the metabolism process. It reduce your energy levels throughout the day. In fact, skipping breakfast makes you feel more hungry than normal. This means you will eat more and add to your waistline rather than reduce it.
  3. Eating breakfast too quickly:  Eating your breakfast or any meal  too fast doesn’t give your brain time to signal the stomach it is full. Research indicates that your brain does not show that you are full until 15 to 20 minutes after you start eating. If you eat your food within 10 minutes or less, you may end up eating more than you need.  It is vital to take your time and enjoy your healthy breakfast.
  4. Eating refined carbs: Grabbing a cake, or any snacks for breakfast is doing more harm to your waistline. These refined carbs lack the necessary nutrients like vitamin B and iron. It best to choose whole grain to get the most from your breakfast. Rather than eating something like a piece of white bread with jam, a better choice may be whole-grain bread and some nut butter. Fruit spread can be added too if you like a little sweetness at breakfast, but just be sure to get some fiber, protein, and fat out of your breakfast.

In summary, eat a healthy breakfast to start your day the right way. Your breakfast should contain protein, fiber, whole grain and healthy fats.   Try eggs, fruit and whole-grain toast, oatmeal with peanut butter, or a smoothie with yogurt, fruit, milk, and nut butter to start your day off right!
