Most times, we often talk about things particular to women’s health, but we forget the things that are peculiar to men, research has shown that most men are missing some key nutrients for their health, and research also shows that most men don’t pay attention to their nutrition and this has led to nutritional deficits.  When it comes to men’s health, it is important to note that as men age, it is important to nourish the body and help protect it from health issues like heart disease, cancer, and obesity. Read along, I would show you five important nutrients for men.

1. Vitamin D; this Vitamin plays so many important roles in the body, men need Vitamin D in order to maintain bone health, adequate Vitamin D is needed to build and maintain strong bones, and this can prevent conditions like fractures. Research has also shown that adequate Vitamin D contributes to healthy testosterone levels and it regulates blood pressure and reduces inflammation. Vitamin D can be gotten through sun exposure, adding mushrooms to your diet, orange juice, and supplements.

2. Omega 3 Fatty Acids; this is a key nutrient for men out there, it helps alleviate joint pain and stiffness by reducing inflammation, this is particular to men who engage in activities that put stress on their joints. The eyes contain a high concentration of DHA which is present in the retina of the eye, omega 3 fatty acid helps in maintaining good vision and preventing age-related macular degeneration. Omega 3 Fatty Acids can be obtained through fish, especially mackerel and sardines, flaxseeds, walnuts, and chia seeds.

3. Potassium; this helps the body to promote balanced blood pressure which is key for preventing heart disease. It is also an electrolyte and this helps maintains the balance of fluids inside and outside the cells which is crucial for maintaining a stable heartbeat. It is also important for maintaining proper hydration levels in the body. Fruits, vegetables, sweet potatoes, and beets are great sources of Potassium.

4. Fiber; adequate Fiber intake can reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. It promotes a healthy environment in the colon. It also acts as a prebiotic, providing nourishment for beneficial gut bacteria. Fiber can also help reduce cholesterol levels by binding to bile acids in the digestive tract, leading to their excretion. Fiber is found in fruits like apples and kale, also in nuts and seeds as well as in whole grains.

5. Calcium; calcium is involved in various cellular processes, including cell division, hormone release, and enzyme activation. It helps regulate many biochemical reactions within cells. It is also essential for the process of blood clotting. It is a critical component in forming a strong network of fibrin, a protein that helps stop bleeding by forming clots. Good sources of Calcium include; milk, yogurt, cheese, and calcium-fortified foods.

In conclusion, a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrient-rich foods is key to ensuring you’re getting all the essential nutrients your body needs for optimal health. As men, this nutrient is needed to balance your body power, improve stamina and energy.
